Congratulations to our 2020 Volunteer of the Year
For reasons we all are very aware of, much more time was spent at home this year. Working remote, canceled business meetings, buildings closed to any and all visitors, events, and gatherings postponed until further notice – time moved slowly as many of us transitioned to this new lifestyle. Our Kids for Kids Family continued to bring positivity to one another from a distance but when given the chance to help and promote our mission, we witnessed a new level of dedication and commitment from so many supporters. The darkness of the year led our team to bring every bright moment to the foreground resulting in the adoption of our new end-of-year honors of our Volunteer of the Year Award.
Meet our 2020 Volunteer of the Year
Migena Agaraj
While the recipient of our Volunteer of the Year Award can be any individual who shows such dedication and passion for our mission all year long, this year we are very proud to honor one of our very own Kids for Kids Committee Members. Congratulations to our 2020 Volunteer of the Year Award, Migena Agaraj. Migena joined our Kids for Kids Committee in April through professional relationships as Director of Business Development at Able Services with many current members including Robert Catalano, Founder & Board Chair, and Michael Borrero, Committee Member. Prior to joining our team, she enjoyed her first Kids for Kids experience volunteering at our Annual Cornhole Tournament and from there she was in close contact with our team on anything and everything she could do to help!
While our event calendar continued to shift within her first months on board, Migena knew she wanted to help Kids for Kids continue to spread its mission and took every opportunity to do so. She joined our many Virtual Happy Hours to stay connected with our members and get to know everyone as best she could since our in-person gatherings were no more. She promoted our mission through her own social and business platforms knowing that when we were able to host events again, she wanted her colleagues and contacts to know all about Kids for Kids and recruit their support.
By the Fall, with several events confirmed in our calendar, Migena made her intent to volunteer at every event we’d host very clear! As a Volunteer, she played an instrumental role in the success of our Golf Outing, Fall Sporting Clays, Racing for a Cure, and Family Fun Day events. Migena was willing to step up and pitch in wherever needed at each event, she was on-site with our team from start to finish taking on roles including guest check-in, set up and distribution of our event giveaways, selling merchandise, the list goes on! Migena took great pride in putting her sales skills to use to support our cause and helped us raise more funds at our merchandise tables than in prior years – even with the limitations placed on our events and modifications that were made as the pandemic continued.
After seeing the impact she was able to make in simply donating her time and talent to Kids for Kids at each of our events, Migena felt even more connected to our mission. Overwhelmed with an appreciation for her support this Fall, we asked Migena what her secret was, what she had learned that has inspired her to be so generous in this way. She shared that it all started with the wise words of her family:
Our Kids for Kids Family is very proud of all that Migena Agaraj has done to further our mission as a Volunteer and we look forward to watching her grow in her role as a Committee Member. Time is our most valuable commodity, and this year we learned in many different ways just how precious it is. Our Kids for Kids Team, and foundation as a whole, is extremely grateful that Migena dedicated so much of her time to us and the many children and families we support.
Volunteer of the Year Award
The Kids for Kids Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented annually to the Volunteer who is seen going above and beyond to support our initiatives and further our mission. Our annual fundraising events are the perfect opportunity to volunteer and donate your time to a worthy cause! While we take pride in how unique and fun each event is, they also serve as great networking opportunities as we look to recruit more like-minded, generous, philanthropic individuals to help further our mission of supporting children and families struggling with medical challenges!
