A Joyous Occasion
Some much needed fresh air brought sponsors, guests, and our Kids for Kids Team together for a beautiful day at the Glen Oaks Club in celebration of our 11th Annual Kids for Kids Golf Outing Presented By A1 Group. We are grateful for everyone involved for making it such a joyous occasion in support of the children and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We could not have done it without you!
Our Generous Sponsors
As the first fundraising event hosted amidst an array of limitations, the overwhelming support of our Golf Committee, led by Founder & Board Member, Joseph Capone, laid the foundation for what would be an incredible day! In their third consecutive year as our Presenting Sponsors, Vincent and John Malizia from A1 Group showed no hesitation in helping our Kids for Kids Team recruit more than 35 sponsors of all levels and sell out all 30 foursomes, with even more on the waitlist! Other members of our Golf Committee stepped up tremendously in snatching up the remaining Exclusive Sponsorships with Bradley Gruber of Uneeda Enterprises as Caddie Bib Sponsor, Ryan Dempsey of East End Group as Pin Flag Sponsor, and Chris Paquette of K&E Auto Body & Collision Center as Tee Marker Sponsor.
A Day of Golf
Our annual outing started off with a delicious breakfast spread on the clubhouse patio as our golfers arrived. From their first steps on the grounds of Glen Oaks, golfers were outfitting themselves with some of our newest Kids for Kids Merchandise. Following breakfast, our 30 foursomes headed out on the course to test their game on this premier course and were met at several holes by representatives of our Junior Committee. Mike Burke Jr., current Junior Committee President, and Philip Bicocchi, former Junior Committee President, teed off against our guests at the Beat the Pro stations raising over $2,000 on the day. We highlighted many foursome and individual best scores following the tournament, all received a certificate to the Glen Oaks Club Pro Shop to get some gear of their choice! Shout out to our Lowest Gross Foursome, Michael Madarash, Howard Freilich, Thomas Romano, and Greg Tellone from Blondies Tree House & Continuity Centers. Our Lowest Net Foursome included Bradley Gruber, John Baldassarri Sr., John Baldassarri Jr., and Shaun Brady representing Uneeda Enterprises. Bradley Gruber also won our Men’s Longest Drive contest, while the prize for our Ladies Longest Drive went to Carrie Gerazounis. Our winner of the Closest to the Pin contest went to David Quinn of Officeworks. Congratulations to all of our Golf Winners, and a gracious thank you to the staff at the Glen Oaks Club for making this event such an enjoyable experience!
A Program to Remember
After testing our golfer’s skills, we began our cocktail hour and the program for the night starting with a special messages from the Kids for Kids Team. Golf Committee Lead and Kids for Kids Founder, Joseph Capone, shared his heartfelt gratitude for the display of support by all members of the audience. Joined by the entire Golf Committee, Joseph presented to Vincent and John Malizia, along with their foursome guests, a crystal award recognizing their contribution as Presenting Sponsor. Vincent Malizia, having initially supported our annual outing through his relationship with Joseph, joined our Kids for Kids Committee earlier this year motivated to join in our mission and do as much as possible for the children at St. Jude and those treated at our other beneficiary hospitals.
Following our award and check presentation came a special story to connect our guests to the reason they were joining us for the event. there and children and families at St. Jude who they were supporting by joining us for the day. St. Jude patient, Jazzy, and her mother Mykle, prepared a video message for our program as they were not permitted to travel to our event. Jazzy, Mykle and their family joined us virtually from Rochester, NY, their experience reminded our guests that while St. Jude is miles away in Memphis, TN, they are treating, caring for, and saving the lives of children not far from where we were all gathered.
Our 2019 St. Jude Patient Speaker, Paula Head, the mother of a St. Jude patient, also sent along a video message to be shared with our guests in which she too communicated the impact donors and supporters of Kids for Kids are making on the many families currently in the fight at St. Jude. “I could not let your golf tournament go by without saying how much y’all mean to the families still in the fight at St. Jude…Pandemic or no pandemic. Families are still in the fight for their children’s lives”. See Paula’s full message here. Artwork from St. Jude patients Ainsley, Tayde, and Victoria were on display in our Virtual Auction, and with the St. Jude Experience App, we were able to see each piece come to life.
At the closing of this year’s golf outing, all walked away with some fantastic prizes, unforgettable memories, and an important reminder that they are part of the reason children and families of St. Jude never receive a bill for the medical care they need.
Congratulations to all of our Golf Winners! Check out the photos of the day in our Event Gallery!
